AI for Design

Description

As a Mendix developer, you often do it all: requirements analysis, building, testing, deploying your app and a whole lot more. Design lands on your plate too, even though it's a whole discipline of its own. How convenient would it be if AI could take design work off your plate. Especially since there often are few designers available for your projects and new feature requests, you can add a lot of value as a professional.

AI agents can now take a good part of that design work off your plate. They help you stay consistent with the design system and with the rest of the app, make your pages prettier along the way, and can advise on which widgets you should use.

Join us at Sopra Steria for dinner and a hands-on workshop based on the Interaction Design Foundation's AI for Designers course, tailored for Mendix and agentic AI. Bring your laptop and your appetite.

In this workshop, you and an AI agent take on the work a designer would normally do on a basic level, from the first question to a page built in Studio Pro: We will briefly cover brainstorming techniques and design deliverables, move on to GenUI via a tool of your choice, and finally implementing this in Mendix via agents.

We still need designers, and AI helps them do even better work. This evening is about the projects where you don't have one. Even then, you want to deliver an app that works intuitively, is accessible and stays consistent as new modules arrive.

What do you need?

• A laptop with a charger.
• Mendix Studio Pro 11.12 (LTS) or higher, installed and signed in.

What is useful to have?

• A paid subscription to an AI agent that can work on your computer. I use Claude with Claude Code. Codex through ChatGPT Plus works too, but the examples and support focus on Claude.
• Basic knowledge of agentic AI. We will not cover what an AI agent is or what an MCP server is. We will go through setting up the MCP connections between your agent and your GenUI tool, and between your agent and Studio Pro.
• Enough token allowance for an evening of generating!

Additionally

• Want to design in Figma? Then you need a paid Figma plan with a Full seat. A free account doesn't give you enough MCP calls for one evening. You can duplicate our design system, based on the Mendix Atlas UI Kit, as a starting point.
• No Figma? Google Stitch is free with a Google account.
