Kafka for Event-Driven Systems | Breaking AI Guardrails

Description

Join us at the Valcon Meetup in Utrecht to delve into the event driven systems with Kafka. You'll gain insights into how this approach enhances scalability and resilience. Additionally, discover how how to break AI guardrails in an interactive session.

Schedule

17:45 - 18:45 - Walk in, networking and dinner

18:45 - 19:20 - Part 1: Part 1: Event-Driven Application Landscapes with Kafka

19:20 - 19:30 - Short break

19:30 - 20:00 - Part 2: Maintainability vs. performance: where do you stand?

20:00 - 21:00 - Drinks and networking

Part 1: Event-Driven Application Landscapes with Kafka

As application landscapes grow, traditional point-to-point integrations often become difficult to maintain and scale. Event-driven architectures offer an alternative approach, enabling systems to communicate asynchronously while remaining loosely coupled.

In this session, Mendix Expert Tim Wubbe will explore how Kafka can serve as the backbone of an event-driven application landscape. We'll discuss core concepts, architectural patterns, and practical lessons learned when integrating Mendix applications into a modern event-streaming ecosystem.

Whether you're considering Kafka for the first time or looking to evolve your current integration strategy, this session will provide valuable insights and real-world examples.

Part 2: Interactive Prompt Injection: Breaking AI Guardrails?

Generative AI is rapidly becoming part of smart applications, but how secure are the underlying models? What exactly are prompts, how do guardrails work, and can these protections be bypassed?

In this interactive session, Mendix MVP Johan Flikweert will dive into the world of prompt injection attacks. Through live examples and audience participation, we'll explore common attack techniques, security mechanisms used by AI systems, and the ongoing cat-and-mouse game between attackers and model providers.

Join us as we attempt to uncover hidden instructions, bypass restrictions, and answer the question: can AI really keep its secrets?

Dinner

Two dinner options will be served from 17:45 - 18:45. Vegetarian alternatives are available for both options.
