How ILD Care improves the quality of life for patients with a rare lung disease.
Business Need: How ILD Care improves the quality of life for patients with a rare lung disease.
Solution: SYSQA and Mansystems contributed their expertise to develop a continuous measurement application that provides insights for both doctor and patient into how the disease progresses. The application integrates with a connected watch to collect and monitor data of physical activity and calorie consumption. This allows the patient and doctor to monitor the disease jointly as it progresses. SYSQA and Mansystems developed the application together over two months using only two developers working over the course of three sprints.
Results: In the Netherlands, about 20,000 people suffer from a group of rare lung diseases covered under the collective name ILD (Interstitial Lung Diseases). Chronic fatigue is one of the symptoms of these diseases. The ILD Care Foundation aims to promote effective treatment and the prevention of ILD well beyond standardized medical training programs.
Reliable monitoring of the patient’s condition is extremely difficult in practice. The condition of people with ILD is often monitored with start and end measurements. But the erratic nature of ILD creates a distorted picture quickly. Continuous measurement provides a more accurate impression of the patient’s condition.
Unfortunately, the relatively small number of individuals suffering from ILD means it is a small market that’s not profitable enough for companies to invest in. So, the ILD Care Foundation decided to fund the development of a continuous monitoring application on its own.
With the E-health app, medical specialists and patients can view their progress and create a personalized plan, resulting a much higher quality of life.
