Municipality of Rotterdam

Description

Community service officers and regulatory agencies are the ears and eyes of the street of the municipality of Rotterdam. In the event of a violation, these employees report this in a mobile application. Think of a car parked on the sidewalk or garbage on a street corner. These reports contain various personal details such as addresses, names and photos - personal details that must be protected in accordance with the GDPR. In addition, the municipality wanted to reduce the number of apps for enforcers, so that they can perform all their administrative work through one or two main applications.

General Information

Business Need: Community service officers and regulatory agencies are the ears and eyes of the street of the municipality of Rotterdam.

Solution: JAM-IT developed the “Toezicht & Handhaving Informatie Systeem”, THIS010 (Supervision & Enforcement Information System): a Mendix application that encrypts personal data. Do civil servants want to register a report? Then they open the app and choose the desired category. Here they can post comments and add photos. THIS010 automatically records the location in Google Maps. This gives employees an overview of the situation in a particular neighborhood. Community service officers and regulatory agencies can use THIS010 on a mobile phone, tablet, laptop and PC. The application is suitable for any operating system. So in addition to the users with their iPhone, other users can also view the data in the app on their Android Phone.

Results:
THIS010 is GDPR and future proof. The application encrypts data, integrates with various other apps and is linked to municipal systems. In the future, the municipality can make various apps and information securely available using single sign-on: a single login is sufficient to be able to use all required data safely. This means that the number of municipal apps can be reduced, resulting in more ease of use, less management and cost savings.

“The municipality uses more than twenty different apps, each with their own login details. There is a separate mix for every type of enforcement and not everyone uses all those apps at the same time. It sometimes seems like an app jungle! With THIS010 it becomes considerably clearer", says Theo Worsteling, Product Owner of THIS010 at the municipality of Rotterdam. Moreover, the Mendix application is support-friendly. JAM-IT has developed THIS010 in close collaboration with the municipality, so that the municipality can manage the app itself. Is there a bug or does functionality have to be adjusted? That can be arranged within a day.
