Within the company, there is an entire division which is responsible for maintaining quality of the product during the production process. Before this project, the registration/administration of this ‘quality control’ was done using an Excel file. Not only was this file difficult to update, the updating process for every new product specification took so long that the quality control division couldn’t cope with fast changes on the product lines. On top of this, the Excel file introduced other problems for the quality control employees. For instance; the Excel file was quite hard to understand and provided no means for simultaneous collaboration.

Solution: To tackle this problem, we designed and developed a Mendix desktop application which enabled Agristo to configure their products in a fraction of the time that was needed before, and also provided the users with a more streamlined interface which guides them in their day-to-day tasks and ensures data consistency. This in turn benefits the reporting done in BI tools through the OData service feed that was built in the application using standard Mendix components.The application was also built in such way that all input data is automatically committed (in case of internet connection failures) while all previous quality control data is intuitively presented in order to assist the quality control division in maintaining the correct quality for the products. With the development tools provided by Mendix, we were able to build this app within 3 sprints, or 6 weeks, in a project in which the scrum team consisted of both members of Bizzomate (Lead-Developer, Business Engineer) and Agristo (Product Owner, Scrum Master).
Results: In just 3 sprints (6 weeks) 2 experienced Mendix developers of Bizzomate, created an application with business value for Agristo. The main aim of the project was to shorten the time needed for configuring (new) products for the quality control division together with increasing workplace happiness for all people working with the application. - Time and cost efficiency: work that used to take several days is now done in a few minutes - Increased operational insights in Mendix application - Increased management/business insights by the use of BI tools
